Re: Aerovee #0361

I really enjoyed your wife's giggling just after it fired off. Clearly a large burden was lifted!

Re: Prop choice

I just ordered a Prince from Sonex over the web. I know they are on Christmas shutdown, but at least I have the order in when they return. For those who got a Prince, what was the turn around time from order to delivery? I've heard stories of over 3 months. I hope not, but I think the Prince is the ...

Re: Who has a running Aerovee?

Here's how I would trouble shoot it. Remove a plug from each cylinder. Get a cheap compression gauge from HF or auto parts store. Screw it into cylinder #1 Hand turn the prop at least 720 degrees. That will mak sure you get one compression stroke. Check the gauge. If you get a good reading, move it ...

Re: Who has a running Aerovee?

Could it be that your cam was installed 180 degrees off? Are there any right turning VW conversions out there? I know there would be no use in the auto world. Either way, the timing (no pun intended) really sucks. And its clear you will need to split the case to remedy it. If shared pain makes you f...

Re: Jabiru 3300 Installation tricks/tips/gotchas

Just finishing up my installation. I haven't installed my baffles or cowl yet, but it looks pretty straight forward. No real gotchas so far. But be ready to do some pretty major surgury on the cooling fins of #1 cylinder head. And the front of the oil sump. Also, you will need to buy an oil cooler, ...

Coolest New Tools

I found this at HF last visit, for $8 it was too cool not to pass up. And it works great. http://www.harborfreight.com/micro-torch-42099.html I guess the meth heads and crack addicts really like these, but for us, its incredible for soldering wires, heating shrink wrap. I still use my standard elect...

Re: Panel Images

Thanks. I went with solid rivets for a more finished look. Kept the stock sonex panel size with no removable panels. The Garmins slide into trays. the MGL xtreme lines up with the Garmin stack. Because of the angle of the stock panel, you don't have much room on the bottom for switches and breakers....

Re: Panel Images

Finally, after weeks of tinkering, redoing, re-measuring, re-cussing, and re-assembly, the panel is finally done! Hooked up the battery and everything came alive! Radio check, intercom check, transponder check, EFIS check. Now just need to plumb the pitot/static and do some creative cable management...
