Re: Torquing the gland nut

A trip down memory lane - this was our first method for torquing the gland nut. Weighed Adam, marked the spot on the wrench where to stand, and I reacted the torque standing on the half prop. First time torquing gland nut.png That's pretty much what I did. 2x8 with holes to grab the prop hub bolts....

Re: Sonex Builders BBQ at Oshkosh 2024

I've been just south of OSH since June 21, and you sure can't put any stock in the weather forecasts here in the summer!! The weather forecasts LITERALLY change every couple of hours. It's an "unsettled" atmosphere here, so it's not easy to predict. So good or bad, don't put too much stock...

Re: Is this a crack in my Cylinder head?

Those cracks are VERY common in VW heads. It's a design flaw from its inception by VW way back when:

Re: Logbook best practices

I have 3: engine, airframe, propeller. Note that each entry should be signed by the person authorized to sign. If you built it, and have the repairman's certificate, it is most likely you. I had a prop strike once, and was called into the FSDO office because it was at a towered airport and the tower...

Re: Instrument panel access

I made the entire center section removable, with 4 short piano hinge sections. I can remove the whole center section in about 10 seconds. The 6 screws I originally installed on the two ends, I never ended up needing or using, so I made a new center section later, with just the 4 hinges. http://www.m...

Re: Glare from polished wing

When flying, I just move a few degrees left or right to get rid of the glare. A bit like tacking in a sailboat. It usually doesn't take much of an offset, so it's not like it adds anything to my flight time. From most accounts, a Sonex after painting weighs about 25# more than before it was painted....

Re: I Hate Lead

I also tried to drill pilots first, and when that didn't work because the drill bits broke,I went straight to the final size and that worked. You can check out my entries in my kit log site, to see if I had any other information in there.

Re: Sonex Builders BBQ at Oshkosh 2024

Also a very unique perspective. Many of the aircraft are turning and resetting for their passes right overhead. Nobody has wished they had gone elsewhere!

ANR Headset Recommendations

I'm looking to replace my old passenger headset with a new one that has ANR. Any recommendations that won't break the bank? I like to be able to plug the ANR headsets into ship's power, rather than having a battery box.
