Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Initial layup for the tailbeacon fairing. I wet sanded the 3D printed mold until it was smooth. Then I painted it, sanded some more, and covered it with thin plastic packing tape. I waxed the tape for release and laid up one ply to start.

Re: Cotton's Law

Excellent - another one is "it will be done next year." Believe it long enough and sooner or later it's true!

Re: Excessive Shaft End Play

Remove and replace. We had one 2x4 bolted to the case and one on the prop hub. With 2 people easy to do on the hoist that way.

Victoria is our insurance agent also. She could not get Adam covered until he had 100 hours total/50 hours tailwheel.

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

Bummer. I got around the insurance problem by going without for my first year. Then my insurance was reasonable.

One thing about the Sonex compared to other tailwheel airplanes I've flown - it has less low speed rudder power than a cub, C140, etc. The 3 point takeoff helps a lot, and I also recommend taking off with a notch of flaps. Gets you off the ground a lot quicker. So as you expand your crosswind comfor...
