Flying Waiex for sale

Well, the time has come to sell the Waiex. I’ve upgraded to a more family friendly Cessna and I just don’t have the room to store my Waiex, unfortunately. I love flying it, fly it often, and am strongly considering a Onex project as a replacement simply because it would fit in the hangar with the Ce...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

Well done Bryan!

The engine sounded great in the video you posted!

It sounds like your engine is running very well! Well done on the new heads and the readings you are now seeing. It sounds like your “new” AeroVee is running like a dream now!

Re: I think a secondhand Sonex is right for me, Seeking Opin

Years ago when I went through the process of obtaining a LODA in my Waiex, the rules stated that I was only allowed to offer "transition training" in the Waiex. I was not able to provide training for a license or any endorsement. The thought process via the FAA was that all of those traini...

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

FWIW ... I don't agree with Mike Farley that burping is just what engines do. My engine does not burp, stumble, or bumble. If it ever does it will go back to the hangar until I find the problem and fix it. Don’t misread that statement as “you’re safe to fly an airplane even if the engine shuts down...

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

As I prepare to return to Pennsylvania to pick up the Sonex, I’m getting the jitters reading about all of the AeroVee vapor lock and overheating issues here in the forum. There seems to be an awful lot of after-build mods that are necessary to alleviate the overheating and vapor lock issues. Not be...

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

I agree with Bryan. Once the AeroVee is broken in, overheating on the ground tends to be a very rare event. The Jabiru 3300 is much more prone to cylinder head temps during prolonged idle than the AeroVee is. Unless it's an unusually hot day or you're idling way over 1000-1200 rpm for some reason, y...

Re: Check landing gear bolts

I'm a little curious on the damage of the Sonex pictured above. The left axle is obviously broke but how did the damage occur on the right wheel pant? It looks like the wheel pant itself was dragged on the top surface, perhaps by a broken weldment holding the wheel pant bracket in place?

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

First, congratulations on the purchase of a very nice looking airplane! I hope you’re very happy with the Sonex and enjoy it as much as the rest of us! Everyone is going to have different ideas on a tool kit so you will have to use your best judgement but in general, only bring stuff you’ll actually...

Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

I agree with Dale...that is a beautiful looking Sonex and I hope it's exactly what you are hoping it will be! There is a lot to consider when purchasing a Sonex and I know it's easy to focus on the engine, which I will certainly discuss, but as for the airframe itself, a few things to consider: - Lo...

Re: Possible cracked engine mount (Sonex-A)

I tend to agree...it looks like simple scratches in the coating to me as well. Can you catch the scratch/crack with a fingernail? You may be able to use an emery cloth or some fine sandpaper to sand down the scratch and see if it disappears, and if you get to the metal, prime and paint that spot for...
