Re: Sonex-A purchase - What to look for

I agree with Dale...that is a beautiful looking Sonex and I hope it's exactly what you are hoping it will be! There is a lot to consider when purchasing a Sonex and I know it's easy to focus on the engine, which I will certainly discuss, but as for the airframe itself, a few things to consider: - Lo...

Re: Possible cracked engine mount (Sonex-A)

I tend to agree...it looks like simple scratches in the coating to me as well. Can you catch the scratch/crack with a fingernail? You may be able to use an emery cloth or some fine sandpaper to sand down the scratch and see if it disappears, and if you get to the metal, prime and paint that spot for...

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Is Waiex middle small rudder too small for tailbeacon? Good question and one I was thinking about as well. Originally I was thinking about a Tailbeacon X as well for simplicity and was contemplating a redesigned upper rudder cap that could keep the Tailbeacon X in a vertical position, with the poss...

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Nice pics Bryan, I was seriously considering a Tailbeacon X and the AV-20 but was also struggling with where to install the tailbeacon. I was about to modify the rudder and make a new upper cap when I decided to go a different route. I also tried the AV-20 in my panel but it doesn’t like the stock p...

Re: Finally

The Waiex looks great! I’d love to see more pictures of the firewall forward someday.

Great work!

Re: Seasonal cruise performance changes

Environmental factors make a big difference on my Waiex as well. In addition to engine temperature changes (cylinder head temp and oil temp mainly), outside air temperature can affect my cruise speeds to 5+ mph or more between summer and winter seasons. Now that your engine is broken in Bryan, be re...

Re: New Memebr Consider a Build...lots of questions.

Hello James, Welcome! You raise some excellent questions and I'm sure you'll receive many answers, so best of luck in your decisions! I'd be happy to offer my own two cents but please take them as my opinion only! Given your criteria, it sounds like a Onex would be the way to go for you. If you want...

Re: Interior lights

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences flying with an MGL panel at night. I have a iEFIS Explorer and the screen is too bright to fly with in the dark. It's blinding and washes out the outside view. Of course that is with the 'night' brightness setting. With the normal day setting my...

Re: Interior lights

Let us know what you think Bryan. I have yet to fly my Waiex at night but I think the time has come to perform some night testing later this fall and see how it goes. I love night flying and would like to expand into that phase soon, but I do need some form of interior cockpit lights to make it safe...
