Fiberglass is pretty magical stuff. You can make it do just about anything. You could cut out a narrow "V" to get rid of the hump, then add some fiberglass to the back, add filler at the cut, then sand and paint.

I used the same fuel filter as Chris. In 125 hours I've not yet found any more than a fleck or two of tiny debris. I used a firewall fitting from Jeggs (I don't know that I have the model number).
