Re: Save $700 to $800

Interesting. On the A model they didn't supply the hardware. Aircraft Spruce had a Sonex hardware kit based on the list. Oddly I got two tailwheels in my kit. That's ok as we will wear out the first one. We still bought plenty of hardware after the kit, especially shorter bolts than what was called ...

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

Is Waiex middle small rudder too small for tailbeacon? I don't think it is too small. But I skipped the mini-rudder for 2 reasons: 1) You have to get wires across the moving rudder to the non-moving fuselage. Can be done, lots of antique Cessnas etc with this setup. 2) Adding weight on the trailing...

Re: Buying wire

At Sikorsky and Collins we pretty much use shielded wire for everything. May be overkill for our application, but for the strobes I'd recommend shielded wire. Terminate the shield to ground on one end, whatever your grounds are in the airplane inside the cockpit.

I'm curious if other Waiex builders see this as a good ADSB option or not. Should we tool up to make one or a run of them?

Re: Tailbeacon on a Waiex

One of the challenges we face is that the lock ring that holds the tailbeacon in place is designed for a vertical trailing edge. The Waiex trailing edges of the tips are not vertical. We were going to use the supplied aluminum lock ring and fair it into the tail, but having the mounting screws verti...

Re: Fairlead Mount Blocks

I was going to say wear, but then I remembered the nylon insert.

Re: Spar Tunnel Craziness

I have a vauge memory of using bent mandrels and wedges to pull them. I don't remember if I used a hand or pneumatic riveter.
