Re: Waiex training

Michael, The 140 is a good airplane. I flew one back in NY and was restoring it. It was a chapter project. When I had to move I was separated from the project. It would have been a good choice to buy a 140 instead of the Waiex kit on the one hand - for about half the money I could have a flying airp...

Distractions

We would have riveted more last night, but Adam wanted to cruise the airport a little in our vintage golf cart (73 Harley model D gas). We came upon a couple avengers in the neighborhood, wings folded and engines running. Waited to see them depart. The local RV squadron did a formation departure too.

Re: Heat and aluminum

One chart I looked up says that either the tensile ultimate or yield strength does not change at 350F for less than 6 minutes on temperature, or for 300F at less than 30 minutes. Ageing temperature for bringing the material to the T6 condition is 320F. I have belt sanded a lot of edges, and I don't ...

Re: Heat and aluminum

Tony,
Either annealing or changing temper of aluminum generally requires temps in excess of 500F. I have friends at work who can more definitively answer the question for 6061-T6. I will get back to you. I think you are fine however.

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

I assembled the left hand side with similar results. This time I was careful to take the springback out of the flanges, so the bottoms were 90 and the tops matched the angle of the front spar in the plans. I did not think that would make a difference for a dry fit, as on the right side the clecoes w...

Trial assembly of right stab. Root rib seems too short though it measures up right.
