Re: Sonex Build Status and Completion Photos

Looks good Robbie! Hopefully we get one of those famous mild Chicagoland winters for the wings.

Re: ACS Keyed Ignition

Many of the airplanes I have flown have two mag switches. I plan to do the same thing. For redundancy at a fly in or if I was letting kids/non-pilots sit in the airplane I would pull breakers for the starter and ignition.

Re: Ruddervator Trim Tab...idea

You could also use cables like the original RV4 design for elevator trim and build a mini trim mixer. That would be cool.

Re: Ruddervator Trim Tab...idea

You could use model airplane servos - and mix them in the same ratio as the ruddervators. It would be sort of cool. I like the idea as a former FBW guy but on the other hand I like simplicity on the things I own. None of my cars have electric locks or windows.

Re: Edge distance

It would have been better to not screw up in the first place. Sigh. But, here is my fix. A piece of .025 bent to fit the inside of the rib and pick up both the row of drive horn rivets as well as the skin to rib rivets. Then a little joggle to get the repair piece to be flush with the skin. I will u...

Ram air and aerocarb musings

Hi all, I have been thinking about why ram air does nor work with aerocarbs. A regular carb with a venturi will have fuel flow proportional, more or less, with airflow. If I understand correctly, an aerocarb does not, fuel flow is controlled by needle position and whatever head pressure there is. So...

Edge distance

Hi all, I have a question into Kerry at Sonex, but would solicit your experience too. One of the things I find challenging in this build is that many parts are designed around using minimum edge distance as the norm, i.e. 1/4" for 2D. When parts line up with edges on either side of the line, yo...

Drilling control surface skin overlaps

Initially found this a bit challenging as there is nothing backing up the skin. Got some quality duct tape (gorilla brand), formed it into a T shape, and stuck it on the skin. This way you can pull on the tape with pliers. It actually works better pulling away from the edge of the tape, which is not...

Re: New Onex#133 Builder

Tom,
You are outpacing us. We have about 75 man-hours so far. It goes quick though doesn't it. I do not regret my choice to spend the extra money on the machined parts or spars.
