Re: Where are the instructions?

Welcome to the Sonex world David! As other have said, the assembly sequence of the Sonex is a little different and the plans are all we get. Once you get used to it though, it makes sense and assembly is logical. Think of it this way. If you start at the "bottom" of the assmebly tree "...

Re: Uavionix TailbeaconX install

Mode C vail is not a shelf. It is a vail around most B and C airspace and does require ADSB out. Of course, you're mostly correct. When the original poster said mode C veil, my dying brain read it as class C airspace, so my remarks in response were just plain wrong. But the mode C veil is only foun...

Re: Sonex Podcast discontinued?

Hello Patrick, I don’t want to speak for Jeff, but as far as I know, the podcasts aren’t done and I’m sure Jeff would be happy to record additional episodes if there is a demand. If you have suggestions on topics, email Jeff with ideas and I’m sure he’ll put them on the list! I know Jeff is busy wit...

Re: First Turbo Aerovee runup to WOT

Peter, just out of curiosity, did you manifold pressure stabilize at 37" or was it still rising? Was that at wide open throttle? If that's the case, it would appear that your wastegate blow off valve spring may need a little adjustment as most turbo owners can easily reach and even exceed the r...

Re: Interesting video on rudder bracket failure

Wow! I sure am glad that was found before the flight and no accidents resulted. I haven't seen the assembly of the Onex rudder, but if it's anything like the stub rudder on the Waiex, I'm guessing there are small angles inside of the rudder skin that attach the rudder skin to the thicker drive plate...

Re: Flight Training in a Sonex

Some other items to consider... - Finding a CFI who is Experimental aircraft friendly is difficult in today's world. - Finding a Designated Pilot Examiner who would be willing to administer the checkride in a Sonex would be even more difficult - Finding an underwriter who would make an insurance pol...

Re: Sonex Waiex-B One-Week-Wonder Flies

Our good friend and regular contributor on these forums, Joe Norris, had the honor! He’s a busy guy flying a lot of cool airplanes up at Oshkosh but if he gets a chance, hopefully he can offer a few tidbits on how the flight went! Congratulations Sonex, EAA and Joe for the successful first flight of...

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

I wish you the best of luck Bryan on rudder travel. As much as I hate to say it, after 400+ hours in my Waiex, I still feel that my crosswind limit is only around 10 mph of crosswind component. I’ve checked my rigging multiple times and done some other small modifications to the mixer assembly in an...

AirVenture 2022 Thread

Hello Everyone, As amazing as it is, according to my calendar we now have less than 4 months before AirVenture 2022 begins! I know it’s still early, but we all know how quickly time flies by, so I wanted to start a thread about this summer’s big show for us to discuss individual plans. As you are al...
