Re: Bart frm Greeneville South Carolina

It is hard to beat renting unless you fly a lot. Clubs are good too. If I was going to buy something it would have been a C140. The demand is soft so prices are cheap. Good when you are buying, bad when you are selling. There are valid arguments for any approach, renting, a club, or ownership. You h...

Re: Tail skins

Ribs to front spar, hockey stick is already riveted. Mike was suggesting the skins be clecoed on while riveting the frame together to preserve alignment.

Re: Tail skins

Mike, I think I have it easier, as I have holes in my ribs, spars, and skin. Once I modified WIX-T11-09 to match the plans, everything clecoes together well. The only thing I am trying to figure out is how to rivet the ribs to the forward spar with the skin on. Maybe I can get a hand riveter in ther...

Re: Tail skins

Mike,
How do you rivet to the forward spar with the skins on? From the back side?

Tail skins

Hi all,
On the tail skins, do you bend them any more as compared to how they come in the box? Or just fold them over and cleco them down? They seem more open than the scratch built leading edges I have built before.

Re: Cotton Waiex 191 - N191YX

Ok, I found that WIX-T11-09 rib was the culprit. It was too long, both parts. I am going to hack off the angled tab and rivet on another to make the proper spacing. Lesson learned: if things don't fit measure all the parts and compare to the plans.

Re: Waiex training

Michael, The 140 is a good airplane. I flew one back in NY and was restoring it. It was a chapter project. When I had to move I was separated from the project. It would have been a good choice to buy a 140 instead of the Waiex kit on the one hand - for about half the money I could have a flying airp...

Distractions

We would have riveted more last night, but Adam wanted to cruise the airport a little in our vintage golf cart (73 Harley model D gas). We came upon a couple avengers in the neighborhood, wings folded and engines running. Waited to see them depart. The local RV squadron did a formation departure too.
