Re: New Canopy Time

I used the Todd's canopy for the canopy part. I was going to use the whole canopy but thought it would require too much modification to use the windshield section. I used carbonate sheet for the windshield. I cut it to use as one piece originally but you could probably get two useable canopy sectio...

Re: New Canopy Time

For anyone that has a Todd's Canopy, what do you think of it? Shape, fit, durability, crack resistance? I'm looking to keep the windscreen but use a Todd's Canopy for the new canopy section. If anyone has done that, any photos? Just trying to see what the differences might be in installation and sha...

Re: 1st Flight to Oshkosh in my Sonex!

Great video Mike! You looked like you were a Pro. What a smooth wheel landing! Thanks. Like I said, it was my best of the trip. You can see shortly after turning in I goose the throttle all the way forward. I was looking at the airspeed decreasing so thought I'd better get a little power on. All my...

Re: 1st Flight to Oshkosh in my Sonex!

That sounds similar to my experience. I had to go around twice! I got it on cockpit video, too. In my case it was the lowest, tightest approach I'd ever made (scared me a bit) but it was my best landing of the trip.

Re: 6" vs 4" tail wheels

I used a 6" Van's Aircraft wheel in a bracket made by Kipp Laurie. Much better ground clearance and much quieter. IMHO there is just no reason to stick with the little 4" wheel. There is no up side to it.

Re: Gear leg fairings with hydraulic brakes

Yes. The cutouts at the bottom of the fairings are different for the brake lines and fittings versus the mechanical cable and arm. The cuts are actually simpler for the hydraulics. You need to make sure you cut the fairing back far enough from around the brake line to make sure that as the fairings ...

New Canopy Time

So on my way back from OSH I stopped in Ohio and filled the tank, then pulled the plane to the side before I went inside for a pit stop. It was hot so I was going to leave the canopy open, but I have a PVC rod I use around the canopy cable to make sure the canopy doesn't flop around. As I was trying...

Re: AeroVee Turbo - Initial OSH trip report

FYI, my oil pressure has been around 32 psi for the 100 hour life of the engine. VW folks say that 10 psi per thousand rpm is good. Sonex said as long as that number does not begin to decrease, I am fine. I should amend that: 32-35psi is normal for me, with oil temps that rarely exceed 180 deg even...
