Re: first flight of the Subsonex

If anyone is interested, you can find a video on www.eaavideo.org that shows the second flight of the Subsonex. It sure looks like a fun toy!

Re: Prop hub/Cowling alignment spacer methods?

Sorry Kip...I meant with the cowling when I asked for hints. Don't get me wrong though, I'll gladly take any hints you have! I'm glad that all is going well with your plane. I hope I can fly mine as much as you're flying yours! Are you going to the Tennessee fly in the first week in Octobe...

Re: Prop hub/Cowling alignment spacer methods?

Thanks Kip...that looks good!

I've also noticed that you countersunk your cowling rivets for a smooth cowling. Great idea...any other good hints you're willing to share?

Prop hub/Cowling alignment spacer methods?

Hello All, I'm ready to start on my engine cowling and after looking over the plans I see the spacer dimensions listed in the plans. It says to use particle board but after looking things over I'm not sure how to make the spacer. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to fabricate the spacer? Tha...

Re: Inspections

Hi Robbie, please don't take offense to me asking if this is your first project. My thought when asking was that I've seen many people who are repeat builders gather lots of outside input for their first (and maybe second) build projects, but as experience is gained and multiple aircraft are finishe...

Re: Inspections

I'm not an FAA employee or a DAR, but to the best of my knowledge there are no legal requirements to have anything checked prior to your airworthiness inspection in order to get the actual airworthiness certificate. Genearlly speaking however, it's never a bad idea to have things looked over prior t...

Re: Why the Sonex?

The first homebuilt I'm a partner in took the better part of two decades to build. It was a "typical" 1200 hour build that took over 5000 hours to build. So, my list for the Waiex includes: 1. Quick and easy to build. I think I will end up taking right around 1200 hours to get my plane rea...

Re: ONEX tri gear

Wow, those fiberglass wingtips are HUGE. Wingtips...or white paint? I believe those are fiberglass wing extensions to provide additional wing area for slower stalls. I think I read about them on the same post when Sonex was talking about raising the canopy. If I'm mistaken, someone please correct m...

Re: ONEX tri gear

The Onex looks great! I can really see the tri gear becoming really popular for a lot of people. I'll be honest and say I haven't been the biggest fan of the looks of the tri gear Sonex but the Onex looks pretty good! Looks like it's getting close to finished too...

Re: Oshkosh Airventure 2011

Sounds like it's been a rough morning up there. It's been IFR most of the morning and when the field finally went MVFR an hour ago an F-16 landed on 36L, over ran the runway and collapsed it's nose gear. I think they finally now are letting people land on 36R. Hopefully this afternoon is better...
