Atlanta to Los Angeles

I am traveling back to Los Angeles from Atlanta. I made it to Clinton Oklahoma on the first day. The airport I stopped at had a courtesy car that I used and they put my plane in a hangar for the night no charge. I stayed at a la Quinta hotel that was newly built. Had a great night sleep and free breakfast. The planed route changed to go south to Lubbock then El Paso for today. The weather changed and I am now sitting on the ground in Wellington Texas. Waiting for the weather and someone to pump me some gas. There are strong headwinds and I want to play it on the safe side since there are not a lot of airports to divert to if I need to land.

I am now sitting in Wellington Texas. One of the guys that runs an AG spraying business stopped in to check up on me. He offered to loan me a car so I can go to town and get lunch before I take off. I have found it a great experience to meet so many kind people in my travels.

Aaron Knight gave me a great piece of advice for GA airplane travel: whenever possible, land at airports that have self-serve gas. Then you never have to wait for someone. Of course that isn't always possible, but when it is I have certainly found it to speed up the process!

I was going to stop in Tucson to see a friend but my plans changed when I saw that a tropical storm was going to bring heavy rain to the area. So I moved as fast as I could via Phoenix. I hope to get out there sometime.

Unfortunately the stop was not planned. The weather was going IFR so I landed at the closest airport and figured I would get gas. But being sunday no-one showed up. I had enough but I like to fill up if I have a chance.

Sounds like you are having a pretty grand adventure ... (hell, you will remember it!)

We were just down in Atlanta (KCNI, sort of Atlanta) for labor day with the family in the four seat non-sonex elderly airplane ... it must be a cool trip to head west from there.
