SubSonex2T deposit holders

Postby porterjames » Wed Apr 05, 2023 12:15 pm

Very few updates have been released about the progress of the two place prototype.
Are there any deposit holders that have some updates?
I visited the factory and saw the prototype soon after they changed the profile of the fuselage.
At that time the reprofiled parts were there but not installed.
Obviously the completion of the prototype and test flights are behind schedule.
Attached are photos of the prototype- some have uploaded in the wrong orientation-?

Welcome to the forum porterjames! I have not seen too many subsonex folks here except for Paul Dye, and he has not been around in a while. So you may not get an answer, but not from folks being uninterested. Mainly we are on the cheaper end of the Sonex spectrum.

I was seriously considering the JSX-2T until this video and sitting in the prototype at AirVenture 2022
300 hour OR 600 turbine starts TBO cost is $30,000
900 hour is the current estimated time before replacement of the turbine.
The range and typical flight time may extend out this cost, but I could not justify a $100/hour turbine reserve on top of the thirsty Jet-A consumption.

As for sitting in it, the curved cockpit longerons are mostly negated by the structure reinforcement necessary for G loading

Me neither! That's one reason why I'm behind an Aerovee!

It seems as though the current engine price is also going up.
For me the two place version is more practical since it allows for a passenger and for training.
As for the engine, there may be a competitor that is planning on a similar size, higher output engine, claiming a $35,000 sales price with a 300 hour TBO cost of $10,000.
For now, those decisions are probably 18 month or more in the future since the prototype is still not flying.

Re: SubSonex2T deposit holders- UPDATE

Postby porterjames » Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:34 pm

Sonex replied to my emailed request for an update on the two place prototype.
According to the response, they are currently installing flight controls in the prototype and hope to begin flight testing before the end of the year.
