For what its worth KJZP is a great airport in a good location with fuel and nearby accommodations. I worked there in college years ago. If you get organized I will make every effort to drive in to attend.

OK, this may actually be happening. I spoke with the airport management and they seemed pretty exited and are actually wanting to host events. I have to work through some of the logistics but it looks like we will be able to camp on the field. They have a grass area where we can tie down and pitch a tent. Grilling will also be allowed. They have a courtesy car available too. I have told them 10-15 people. I hope we can get that many. The plan is now for November 10-12. Mark your calendars. Once I have final confirmation I will post on the Sonex Facebook group and other forums as well. Should be fun!

You may be greatly surprised at how many folks show up if the weather is good. One of the last Sonex fly-ins in Tennessee had (IIRC) 41 Sonex aircraft there and set a record for the most Sonex aircraft in one place at any time. I believe that record still stands. The first time I flew into Crossville we set the first record at 29 Sonex aircraft present. Tom Huebbe (a very warm and greatly missed Sonex builder/pilot) did a very nice video about the 2010 fly-in:

Yours truly is at the end with his VW powered Sonex (along with the rest of the attendees). All that to say that Sonex guys love to get together and a three day fly-in makes the travel worth it ...

I should be able to make any date and if plane is flying I will fly in weather permitting but will drive in if that is an option.

Patrick, is KJZP (Pickens County Airport, Jasper GA) the final airport choice?

I'm just trying to be clear from the previous posts.

It is a nice airport with a lot of scenic terrain nearby and the airport management has always been very welcoming. It's close to I-75 for anyone driving in too.

It's only a 24-minute flight for me!

KJZP is the location of choice. I have to work through some insurance requirements with the airport and I am hoping that can all be accomplished in the next few days. the more accurate headcount the better. so far the poll shows 5 for Nov 11. for insurance purpose I am planning on 10-15 campers. People who fly in for just the day won't count. I will need to figure out what all of this costs. I will keep everyone posted on progress.

Maybe set up a new poll as a RSVP to see who is coming. I didn't vote for that day, but I plan on being there.

Finally heard back from the insurance company. The premium that would allow us (10-15 people) to camp on the field is $591. Would be evenly divided by the attendees. The airport would charge $15 per night parking.
If we can get to 10 people that would be only $60 per head plus parking. I will create another poll to see how many people we can get to commit. I don't mind fronting the money for the insurance but don't want to end up being stuck covering the entire bill.
Another option would be to postpone until the spring. I was a little late in getting this going. Stay tuned for the poll and please submit your answers.

Thanks,
Patrick
