Waiex #0056 - N569KM First Flight 4/2/2012

Postby MichaelFarley56 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:26 pm

Greetings Everyone,

I'm pleased to report that I had my first flight in my Waiex, kit #0056, N569KM this evening on April 2nd. The aircraft is based at Union County airport (KMRT) in central Ohio.

The first flight lasted around 20 minutes and everything worked perfectly other than lower than desired oil pressure out of the Aerovee once the oil got up around 185-190 degrees. Oil pressure started around 60 psi but dropped to the low 30's at 2950 rpms, so I decided to cut the flight a little short and call it a day. Hopefully, after a quick adjustment, it will be ready for a second test flight.

Anyway, here are links to a few quick videos:

Congratulations!

First in the sonexbuilders.net first flight section too.

I love your paint scheme. It is simple but classy looking.

Question on the landing... It appears that the engine died when you were taxiing off the runway. What happened there?

Congratulations Micheal. Only one issue that needs addressing after the first flight, it sounds like success to me. Enjoy.

Yeah it sure did...I simply had the idle set a little too low then flooded it when I tried to start it. After the video ended I took a few pictures then fired it back up and taxied back to the hangar. One more quick adjustment to do ASAP...
