Onex 017 flies!

Postby Scott Todd » Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:38 pm

It flew :) It was making about 3150 static. Took off around 7:40 am local and climbed at about 95mph as I was worried about temps. Went to 1600 AGL per ATC and circled. Speed was 154mph indicated at around 3500. My GPS verified it to to within 1mph both ways. Max CHT was 384 and EGT was 1150 but I didn't focus on that as much as CHT so it could be different. I didn't lean but did a quick ignition check and didn't notice more than about 20 rpm difference to be verified later.

Pulled the power back to about 1/3 and pitched up to get to Vfe. That last little bit of flaps is work at that speed. Flew final at about 110-113 and didn't come off 1/3 throttle until over the runway. I floated a bit but it sat down nicely.

Left wing is a bit heavy. Will try to adjust flaps before adding a trim tab under other aileron. Mechanical elevator trim tab was too loose and wouldn't stay. It could use a fixed tab on other side to center it. It needed a bit of up trim.

It was SUPER FUN!!! Can't wait to work thru the test cards :)

Minimalist - he's got paint! Very nice simple panel I'd say.
