Speaking of panels ... have you seen this one?

Well, I spent the past two weeks working almost non stop on Sonex 1517. My wonderful wife not only let me spend my Christmas vacation working on the airplane - she pitched in and helped when needed. (And put up with my complaints during several challenging phases)

Today I mounted the AeroVee on the airframe with my wife and friend Tony helping, and got as far as installing the exhaust and turbo. The exhaust installation was way more challenging than the turbo. Lots of stuff to finish up on the turbo install...

Lucky for me Chicagoland's bitter cold held off until tonight. The garage was toasty and is now very, very full of Sonex.

Wow am I sore, but also happy. Looking forward to finishing the airplane by summer!

(Sorry - no photos - will try to load some up tomorrow)

Can I expect to see "Turbo Rob" at Crossville?

Great feeling isn't it. I couldn't believe it seeing it hanging on the mount. The fun is just beginning. Glad to hear you had a good and productive holiday!

Sounds great Robbie and looking forward to the pics! It is only 49.1 NM to C77 from 1C5 so I hope you can visit during phase 1!

Well, a long overdue update.

Obviously I did not finish by summer! But....

I am done with major construction on Sonex 1517, and currently working my way through a long punch list (61 items - 9 complete).

It appears likely I can make the first flight this fall. Hopefully before Crossville!

Hey Robbie-
I see on the foundation Youtube channel you have a first engine start video! Congratulations! Is that a new video or did I miss the announcement?
