Here is the thing I made to retain my landing gear fairing pins. I had one come out far enough that it wasn't sticking through the floor anymore.

It's basically a piece of .050 ish riveted to a piece of .032ish and a nutplate. The thick piece keeps the pins from sliding, and the thin piece keeps the pins from rotating. Only one screw needed, as it butts up against the hinge where the loops have been removed as per the plans.

Thanks Randy. My transmissions from the left seat are good, so I suspect a wiring or headset issue.

So, the mic works better when you plug the jack all the way in...

Flight 4:
1) Definitely has a bit of a left turn with me in the left seat. Hands off from the right seat.
2) My brakes failed. Seems like they are low on fluid.
3) Much less oil on the belly. I've got the dipstick out and the tail down and I'll check the level when it's cool.
4) Next flight I need to go and just do pattern work. There was a little crosswind and my takeoffs/landings were ugly.
5) For some reason it didn't start on the mags alone. Second attempt I put on the electronic ignition and it fired right up. Did fine on the mag check.

I've had issues on all three of my AeroVee's starting on just the Mags. If the battery is freshly topped off and the engine is cool it can start. I seem to recall this one of the reasons they quit offering it without the electronic ignitions. I quite often start and immediately turn off the electronic ignition if I'm not doing a long flight or I have a long taxi to save the battery for the next start. I turn them back on for the run-up and flight. I wouldn't worry too much about it for now. Follow the procedures for Mag check on run-up and during flight and you should be fine. You can investigate it more as you get further into flying it.

Good to know, thanks! I was not too worried about it, but this seems like confirmation that it's ok - as long as it passes the mag checks.

I start my AeroVee with both ignitions on. Once started I turn of the secondary, electronic, ignition off. I also lean the mixture aggressively. I taxi like that and then when doing the run up I turn the second ignition back on and put the mixture full rich. When I land I turn off the runway and stop, then I turn off the secondary ignition and lean the mixture aggressively again. I taxi in that condition to the hangar.

Pilotyoung's procedure is right on. If I don't lean again after the run-up while I finish the checklist, it will stumble on take off. Its about a 10 second window where it starts to load up on fuel again at idle. I fly from a controlled field and can end up waiting a few minutes for takeoff clearance. I usually pull onto the runway and go full rich and then throttle up.
