The skis are on the bottom of one of my 11 year old son's many projects. He wants them all to fly, go on the ground, and in the snow. I used to be an avid skier and have sacrificed my fine collection of rock skis to his creative needs. Any excuse to get tools in his hands. He has no interest in the Waiex yet, but that is ok. That particular project does come in handy for holding tools!

I was thinking we should talk on how to interest and involve our sons. Mine is also 11 and unless there is money changing hands (mine to his)...he has no interest in helping on my Sonex either.

Just viewed the video...It's great to see your son so interested in building. Now, how about all the deburring? I'm still trying to convince my wife that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

He does a lot of the deburring, though I do a little more. I don't mind doing some extra dog work when everybody else is asleep. On week nights we only get 30 minutes after dinner. I try and stack up the work so we get a lot of bang for the buck. Helps keep him engaged.

If your wife reads these forums make sure she knows that dog work is homebuilder code for opportunity.

At the workshop, Kerry told me to never assume. I assumed that the rudder cable holes in F25-08 were colocated with the tooling holes - whoops. Just a little snowman hole.

It is not all work. We got the golf cart out for the first time this season. Glad it ran but man was it cold.

I am getting good at bending stuff. Here is the little Y thing:

I set up the wood blocks so all 3 pieces were aligned the same.

The doubler strap was thick. I used the hockey stick technique - pipe wrench on the arbor press, the old hummelbird fuselage alignment beam on the pipe wrench, Adam hanging on the arbor press handle, and I tweak it in with the pipe.

The three pieces seem to fit well together and I got the 4.6 degree angle pretty good. Lots of holes to drill!

Many holes - most up to #30. I could use some long #21 and #10 clecoes.

I ended up alternating sides with my clecoes every other hole as things were drilled up, since they couldn't reach all the way through. . This is some of the thickest material on the aircraft, about equal to the root of each main spar.
