It has been a very unproductive month. Started with the end of summer camp. Adam and I did one shift in the hangar then came down with colds. Next off to Connecticut for my niece's wedding. Tonight we did two hours and worked the rear spar carrythrough.

The long 3/32" cleco above the gnu-vise is a pilot hole for the mounting bolt. Next week Adam is off to the boundary waters and I hope to spend some time at Oshkosh.

Overall the wing rigging process has not been bad.

Adam and I made some real progress and I only bled a little. Here is the left hand drill bushing in place:

Adam drilling. He did the right side and I did the left.

Drill bit through:

The other side is pinned with an AN4 bolt through the angle into the drill bushing.

Now I need to take the wings out and upsize that hole. This method seems simple and foolproofish.

Here is my right hand landing light:

I was convinced I needed to nutplate the wingtips as the lens is impossible to screw down without access. I talked to Bob Carson and he says both his lights are aimed 20' ahead when taxiing. I think I will do that, then use aluminum pops to attach before flight.

Adam and I pulled the wings today. I am making the tooling to updrill the holes. Pictures later.

Scott,
You are too kind - you forgot to mention the big break you took to help me catch up! Also that is the same thing John Monnett said to me Thursday.

Definitely a relationship between too much posting and not enough building. Sonex 982SX took four years to build along with a lot of posted build logs.

The new airplane has far fewer build logs and is zooming along in comparison.

Don't stop posting though, we all like them too much.

Here is my tooling. The thick piece guides the drill on entry. The hole is bored to 1/4" all the way through, then 5/16" down to within about 1/8" from the bottom of the hole. The little piece is for the drill exit.
Image

Here the tool is clamped in place. I put a 1/4" rod to align the pilot hole in the fuselage with the tooling.
Image

Here is the back side.
Image

The 5/16" bit slides into the entry tooling for nearly an inch before any drilling takes place.
Image

Of course I drilled the tooling holes on the drill press. Adam worked the aft spar mount while I did this - a bunch of updrilling and deburring.
