Made it back to the airport/hangar today and installed the newly painted items. Couldn't resist pulling it out in the sun for a quick photo shoot!

Thank you Bob, that means a lot coming from you! It's been awhile since we talked, how is the progress on your RV-14? Hope to get in the air by early May.

Scott,

The 14 is looking good. I just received the finishing kit so I have the canopy, landing gear and engine mount, plus a bunch of interior finishing pieces.

I'm talking with Van's right now to get my engine and prop ordered by next week.

Still a ways to go but it's still possible I could fly in the early fall.

So I'll be taking the Sonex to Oshkosh this year. Next year I'll have to figure out how to get my 'fleet' up to Oshkosh.

Glad to hear you're making good progress on the -14 Bob!

I've finally installed the Sandia Mode C remote transponder that was my Christmas present. It really was a lot easier than I made it out to be in my mind.

Mount the remote unit (under the seat near the CG):

Locate and mount the airfoil antenna on the belly at least three feet away from the unit:

Connect the ground wire to the airplane ground block, the power wire into the avionics power supply switch, and the Rx and Tx wires to their corresponding Tx and Rx wires in the MGL wire harness for the Xtreme Mini RS232 port 1. Was pleased to see this in the lower corner of the display after powering the EIFS unit on, and choosing the Sandia transponder in the setup menu! (Standby 1200):

Was talking to Mike Farley tonight and told him I have nothing left to complete and no more excuses to not attempt a first start of the engine this weekend...

My FAA airworthiness inspection date is set for May 18th, so not much longer to wait.

Scott's Sonex #1629 - Progress

Postby Sonex1517 » Fri May 06, 2016 9:49 pm

Hey Scott

I am sure Michael will tell you the same thing, but be careful of those high speed taxi tests on your list....these things fly just over 40 mph....

Great to see the progress and I am looking forward to hearing about the first flight!
