Scott..great progress! I am enthused for you! I have just moved my wings to the airport, and will get the remaining there shortly.

Would you give me the source and part number for your wing root seal? You have probably done that a few times, but I have lost all references to it already. thanks much! :D

Joe:

Thanks! Try this link, it's from Vans Aircraft parts section of their website. I purchased a quantity of (2) of the 12' long "wing root channel".

Still making progress. Flaps and ailerons are installed and connected to the push rods. Not finished with rigging them to the plans, but close. As you can see from this photo I also need to finish the yellow vinyl stripes.

Gear leg fairings are done for all three legs, and installed on the nose and right main. The left main was giving us fits today so my son suggested we stop and go do something else.

Steadily crossing items off the to do punch list. Wheel pants and gear leg fairings completed!

Ailerons and flaps installed, flaps are rigged. Vinyl stripes and stars and bars done!

As an aside...I drove by the town of Mojave last week and saw the "Air and Spaceport", including the aircraft graveyard in the Mojave desert...pretty cool! I know we have a few Sonex/Waiex owners out in that area (Dana and Nick).

Final stages of painting the cowling and wheel pants. Everything is sanded, filled and ready to go into primer.

Mixing the primer...this stuff smells something fierce...must where breathing protection and painting suit.

Wheel pants covered in 2-coats of gray epoxy primer.

Cowling also finished in 2-coats of primer. Will let it cure overnight...and sand out any imperfections.

I really like painting...it just takes so long to get everything set up.

That looks great Scott. I usually don't care for military paint schemes but your is an acception. It really looks good on the polished aluminum!

Thanks David! I'm hoping the finished airplane turns out the way I planned. We will see once the painted cowling and wheel pants are installed.

I was able to spray the base coat of silver on today. The paint I'm using is a base coat/clear coat (automotive) system. I also plan to mix in some black and possibly red single stage urethane on the cowling.

Painting is all done. Clear coat was applied Wednesday night.

This morning I taped off the top of the cowling and sprayed the final gloss black (it's a single stage urethane paint). All in all it looks pretty good and can't wait to complete the reassembly at the hangar.

Had a few minutes on the way home from work to test fit the right main wheel pant.
