Phase 1 flight testing continues...and I've also started a new project! Ever since completing the Sonex my wife mentioned it was too bad the plane isn't big enough for the whole family. Read my blog to find out more about the project!

Today another milestone in my Sonex flight testing...Phase 1 is complete! Entered the requisite information and sign off in my logbook.

My son and I have also completed the horizontal stabilizer for our new project the Sling 4. If Sonex would offer a 4 seater I'm sure that would have been highly considered. I will say the Sling takes match hole construction to a new level. No updrilling...and it still uses blind rivets so I don't have to buck rivets like the RV-10 I was considering.

Very cool Scott! Especially getting your son riveting!

Well it looks like all my photobucket picture links are gone..

So here is a new video I shot a few weeks ago practicing crosswind landings in the pattern.

Good video with commentary. Enjoyed the ride along.

Thanks!

In the cross wind landing video, you were adjusting the intercom. Is that the MGL V6 and if so, could you tell us what settings you are using? I'm not yet satisfied with my adjustments.
Thanks

Hi Darrick,

Funny you should ask...I’m not happy with V6 settings either. It seems like when I get it to sound right, the next flight it’s different. This is my 2nd V6 com radio...

Do you use ANR headsets?

MGL says to use the VOX setting with ANR’s but I didn’t find that to work.

Right now I have Dave Clark with Headsets Inc retrofit ANR kit.

VOGAD is set to HIGH, about the 3-4 range
Microphone is at -4.5 dB
Squelch is at +10

Scott & Darrick,

I also use an MGL V-6 Comm radio, and had a rough time getting the radio to work satisfactory. I settled on the following settings (see video link below) as the best compromise. I was so dissatisfied that I seriously considered replacing the radio. However, last year I switched to a Clarity Aloft Halo headset (in-ear style headset). The Halo are wonderful, and sound great with the V-6. It was the best decision I've made recently, and a lot cheaper than replacing the comm. Consider trying that - I think you'll like it.

While I use the Flightline 760 I will also confess that it was difficult to get good audio in or out using a set of passive David Clark or even Lightspeed with ANR. The purchase of a set of Clarity Aloft made a tremendous difference and IMHO are well worth the purchase price.

BTW ... I see Jeff sometimes uses a set of Lightspeed QFR Solo and I have a set that I use for passengers. They work well with the Flightline 760 intercom for passengers.

Scott, Thanks for the info...I have DC headset, no ANR. I will try the suggestions by you and Jeff S.
