Rivet wing tip to attach angle on the main spar?

Postby gregsonex » Tue Dec 19, 2023 12:53 am

Sonex mentions on SNX-W07-01 that riveting the wingtip to the attach angle on the main spar is optional, since you already rivet the entire perimeter. Seems like an esthetic thing. I had drilled the rivet holes already but was considering using bondo to refill those holes so the wingtip looks nice. Any thoughts or preferences as to what people have done on this?

Don’t use bondo. The wing tips flex way too much and any bondo will soon crack. If you want to fill the holes on the fiberglass wingtips use some west epoxy or a similar fiberglass epoxy.

I agree with Keith that bondo is the wrong choice for those small holes. Epoxy, JB weld or something would be better. My nav lights are mounted on a 3D printed part which is faired in with bondo. 193.5 hours or so and I don't think there are cracks. I did rivet my tip to the angle and left the rivets exposed and unpainted.
