Main Spar assembly support 'blocks'

Postby n502pd » Wed Jul 16, 2014 4:25 pm

I hope this is the correct place to ask this.. Somewhere I remember seeing someone who had made assembly support blocks for the main wing spars, and had shown a picture of them in use. I have searched here and find nothing. Does anyone have a better memory than I, as to where those pictures can be found? thanks in advance! :D

I made mine on my garage floor with the Sonex bucking bar. I used a few 2x4 blocks to raise the spar so it was roughly parallel to the bucking bar surface, but low enough that the weight of the spar on the bucking bar was holding the rivet firmly in place.

Are these the blocks you are referring to or did you see a more sophisticated technique?

Thanks Chris for the reply. Mike had what I was wanting. I am not quite to the actual point of final assembly yet, and will keep what you have shown as reference! :)

I made and used Mike's support blocks. It was an easy method to use. I used a pneumatic rivet gun which is well worth the expense.
