I am moving on to the left side to see how it goes and compare the fit. The rigt side does have a different shape on the top. It bows up considerably more the the left cowl. I am not opposed to trimmed my more I am must concerned that there is not enough material to allow it. I will rough fit the left and go back to the right. I did not think to remove the prop hub fitting. I know it is close.

I have to say thank you to all that helped out. I did go back and remove the hinge and trim more from the left side which brought the right side to a better place over all. Then did the centerline on the right cowl. I got the left side fitted as well. There was a lot of on and off. Trimming a little and sanding a little. I think It is pretty good considering how it was going. I spent another 8 hours today getting things to fit. Next I will do the side hinges, top southcos, and the bottom hinge. Here are some photos of how the day went. Thank you all again for the advise and encouragement!

I did go back and remove the hinge and trim more from the RIGHT side which brought the right side to a better place over all. Is what I meant to say.

When I see these reports from other builders of success on a major milestone, it gives me hope that I will get there someday. Thanks for the posts!

I see that Dana cut the right side of the cowl to get it down.

Is this standard. My cowling is also high and I don't know how to get it to fit better.

I welcome help from anyone.

Sonex is closed these days so can't get any help there and I want to get this thing fitted.

Thanks

The cut really did not do a lot It is not cut all the way through. Follow the advice that others have told me. Keep trimming a small 32nd and 16th inch does wonders. I did not believe it but it worked. It did not "short change" me on length like I thought it would. Just take a little at a time. The thing about my cowl was that the right was much "taller" on the top than the left. I just got all of the hinges clecoed last night. It has taken me over 30 hours to get to this point. I took my time and did the on/off thing about a thousand times. The holes got worn out and I had to start new ones to hold the cowl to the prop hub. Also take the hub fixture off and check to see if the cowl is pushing out and requiring more trimming. Got frustrated and took a lot of breaks. It still needs finessing.

Thanks Dana,

That is helpful.

It is hard to believe that (but I trust you guys) trimming will bring it down.

I will keep on keeping on.

Thanks again.
