Aileron bellcranks - WIX-W18, SNX-W21?

Postby Bryan Cotton » Thu Sep 24, 2015 10:02 pm

Hey all,
Not sure if I have the sonex plans page right. Let me know and I will fix.

The plans say to use paper shims between the phenolic spacer and the angles to get a snug fit. I don't seem to need shims as I have about .018" of clearance. This seems good to me but I am interested to hear what others got for a snug fit.

I needed paper shims, I think only a couple on each side, so that the bel crank pivots smoothly.

I didn't use any, my phenolic from the Wick's hardware kit was slightly oversize. The bushing went in / reamed nicely with a paper width gap between the bushing flange and angle after getting a good snug fit. The bellcrank rotates nice with no slop. Just for a feel good, I asked Sonex tech and they said it was all right.

I did not need paper shims in my aileron bellcranks, but did need a couple in my elevator idler (which is a similar assembly)

Bryan, I didn't need any shims in the bellcrank assemblies.
