Start the Clock

Postby Stogie6 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:13 am

Well, sonexbuilders...

My tail kit will arrive this afternoon (9 September 2013) and the fun/challenge begins. I really look forward to building along side my dad on this project. A lot of people ask why I am building a single seater tail dragger. All I can say is that 95% of my flying has been solo. That goes with me driving my GMC Yukon XL. Solo. So for all those who ask, this is what I want and it will fit my flying profile just fine.

So, I raise a glass of Tennessee's finest to the beginnings of "Colonel Mustard 2". I will set up a website, log of the build as I go.

Welcome to the group! I started with the tail of my tri-gear Sonex and now I have the tail and nearly one wing complete. I think you will enjoy working on the kit, I certainly am. Hope to see you in Crossville for the October American Sonex Association fly-in.

Congrats! I have a bunch of single seat tailwheel time and it is good. I guess I should start my clock too.

OK, Since my last post pertaining to the tail kit, I am now Onex Plans No. 0153. The rest of the kit shows up the week of 9 December. I am committed now. I do look forward to this journey and the people I will meet along the way. Lots to do! Drop me a line of encouragement or other as time allows between your building and rivet pulling.

David,
Excellent! You will have to post some progress pictures sometime. There is a guy in my neighborhood with a Onex tail kit and I keep trying to get him to start. I think he is waiting to retire from the airlines.

David,
Nice meeting you at Crossville. Glad to hear your ONEX kit is on the way. I received mine on the 19th of Sept and am making good progress. According to my logs I have just under 190 hours invested. Tail sections (vertical and horizontal), rudder and elevators are complete, aft fuselage and turtle deck are done and I'm 5-10 hours away from joining forward and aft fuselage. Good to hear from you.

Hey Tom - I am glad to have met you and John Stopher at the ASA fly-in as well. As well as purchasing the rest of the kit, I got a DVD from homebuiltHELP.com that shows how they built the Onex. Very interesting. I think I have watched it 3 times already. Once the kit arrives, I will have a better understanding of what to and not to do. Lots of de-burring ahead of me! I will keep you posted as to my progress.

David,
I think the Homebuilt Help was one of the best investments I've made. I find it a great help particularly with regard to some of the corner brackets and braces. Keep in touch
