engine mount

Double dipping...

I haven't done installed anything on the firewall. Is it too early to install the engine mount or will I end up taking it off, putting it back on several times (like every other part)?

I mounted my engine mount prior to planning my firewall, and it was helpful to know where the interferences were in doing so. I never removed the mount to complete the rest of the firewall forward as it would have meant pulling the gear legs off as well (tailwheel.)

I did mount the engine to the mount on/off a couple times.

I'm with Ryan, you actually need the engine mount in place in order to locate the parts like coils, battery etc.

I'm installing the engine mount and the distance between the bottom holes of the mount are just a fraction more than the distance between the holes in the lower blocks on the airframe. My overall width is dead on so I'm not sure what's off. That's pretty much a fixed distance. Anybody experience this and what was the solution? It's very slight perhaps between a 1/32 and a 1/16th but its enough to keep me from inserting the last bolt. I tried playing around with inserting different bolts first etc. I dont want to run a bit thru it and want to save trying heat for last. Any thoughts?

Hi Peter,
Had the same issue with my UL Power engine mount on my Waiex-B #0036.
Sonex sent me an aluminium insert to plug the original hole, I then refitted the mount and redrilled a new hole using the engine mount as a drill guide. ( mine was about a half bolt diameter off )
I first adjusted the hole so the plug didn't fit and then heated the airframe part with an electric paint remover and tapped the plug in to obtain a nice fit.

That's what I'll do. Sonex doesnt have the plugs I'll order some round stock from spruce.

This worked for Me: Sonex sent me a custom made dowel that fit perfect. I probably went a little overboard on making the whole perfect, but it is one of the most important holes.
