See and Be Seen

Things to think about before I cover things up.

I found some interesting LED red/ green nav lights used in the boating industry. 112.5 degree spread,so it meets the 110 degree requirement.

Also a white mini strobe that I think was intended for squad cars.

I don't specifically plan on night flying, but it would be nice to have for general safety.

Anyone else try going this route?

I don't usually fly at night but sunset flights are magical. With lights, you don't worry about time getting back. I usally like to shoot a few twilight touch and go's on the return home :) All three of my airplanes have lights and strobes.

I'm in the running for the cheapest Sonex person ever. But I bought real nav/strobe lights - Whelen Orion 600s. They are awesome. I get comments about how bright my lights are. We fly at night.
Do boat lights have the visible range up and down, or just fore and aft?

What did you use for a mount on the wing tip lights to get the proper angle?

Ha, you just provided a solution to a problem I didn't know I had. My lights are mounted on an angle (I'm the second owner) which always bugged me. I'll have to see about this upgrade. Nice.
