ECU mounting location

Postby jmtraylor » Mon Jan 08, 2024 5:51 pm

Looking for lessons learned on mounting location of the ECU for UL 350 on the Sonex B.

Trying to determine best location. Pictures would be great as well.

Thanks,
Mark

I put ECU and the capacitor on aft side of the firewall with passthrough for the wire harness.
Location worked well for wiring from engine and to the instrument panel.
Plan to add insulation under the ECU.

ECU goes on the cold side of the firewall. I put mine on amounting plate on the fuselage side plate, passenger side. That way I have a chance to get at it once the instrument panel is riveted in place- under the tank and obstructed by the pedals is hopeless. Get the fuel pumps and the fine filter as low down on the firewall as possible- there is a slightly reduce chance of heat radiation down low. I have seen many fuel pump installations with an additional heat shield for protection.

Put my delicate electronics on the aft /cool side of the firewall, with their own cool air supply taken/T off one of the cabin vents. So far so good.
