after running the starter with out firing the engine you should see some oil pressure. Cool off the starter motor and top off the oil to compensate for filling the oil galleys and oil cooler. You should see a little higher oil pressure. The fact that you are seeing some pressure shows the pump is primed and working. On start up the pressure should come up to the normal range. I ran 50 psi in cruise with the turbo. I also had a mechanical oil pressure gauge as the VDO was never right. Your millage may vary!

https://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyg ... ooling.pdf found that link. I don’t have a turbo yet but was wondering if they are in fact water cooled turbos that they tried to run dry?

yes they are, adding water cooling may work to solve the problems.

Actually they are oil cooled and water cooled with passages and inlets/outlets for both. Oil cooling alone appears to have been inadequate.

Thus far, this has only proven to be true in the post-shutdown phase. I don't believe there has been any trouble reported in terms of turbo cooling in-flight with just oil flow/cooling.

I don't disagree. I was really just trying to address the question of "if they are in fact water cooled turbos that they tried to run dry?"

Flew today in 72f weather, turbo core temps never went over 186f in flight.....

That’s really encouraging that your core stays so low in flight! Still have to build the wings but my Aerovee Turbo is sitting on the fuselage ready to run! Can’t wait!
