Start procedure?

So another AeroVee question (with AeroInjector): what are you using for a start procedure?

My starting procedure is the exact same as Mike's, except that when I push the mixture in to FULL RICH, I need to pause around 2 seconds in order to prime my engine. Just like Mike said, once the fuel valve is open, throttle cracked, and mixture pushed in, fuel will start to flow through the AeroInjector but for me, a very slight delay (no more than 3 seconds) works as a prime for the engine.

Also, once the engine starts, I will also lean the mixture on the ground for idle power and engine smoothness.

Be aware that when the mixture goes full rich the fuel flows through the needle jet and drips down into the air cleaner. This condition has a good chance for a fire. It's better to be cranking the engine during those few seconds so any fuel that runs out of the needle valve is sucked into the intake manifold.

I agree with Mike Farley. I too find about a two second delay before hitting the start switch allows a better prime and easier engine start. I've got about 300 hours on my Aerovee now. The weather has finally started to improve and I logged about 6 hours last weekend.

How's the airplane doing Gary? Is the engine running well for you? I haven't been out to BJC much lately but hopefully when I'm out there for work I can catch up with you! I'd love to see the Hound Dog again!
