Excellent job on the cowling! I too am looking forward to reading a writeup on this. I've always liked the look of that nose bowl on the Corvair-powered Sonexes, especially after seeing Dale Williams' plane at the Asheboro, NC gathering last week (I was the guy bouncing landings in the CH 2000 Alarus). I haven't seen one used with an "approved" engine until now. It looks like an all 'round winner: improved looks, lighter weight, improved cooling, better/easier engine access.

I do have several questions. First, what are the impacts on cruise speed/fuel burn? Second, how has the change altered the aircraft's weight and balance? And third, did the change have any other impact - negative or otherwise - on flying characteristics?

I'm hoping to install one of these on my Sonex (#1680). Just haven't decided on the 3300 Jabiru or the TurboVee...

Sorry for resurrecting an old "zombie" thread, but was the writeup on this ever published? I can't seem to find anything in prior newsletters. What other resources or sites exist that outline this mod? I only ask because there seems to be very little on the web - which is a shame, given the gorgeous result.

The rest is sheet aluminum. WW has directions in his install manual for CH-601 for building the cowling. It is surprisingly straightforward.
