Jabiru Propeller Bushings

Postby 142YX » Sun Apr 14, 2013 12:25 pm

The supplied prop bushings that came with my engine have 1/4" ID holes in them, and the Jabiru manual states to use AN-4 bolts to secure the propeller. The Sonex supplied spinner has 3/8" ID holes in them, as does my Prince propeller. What did you guys do.. just open up the supplied bushings to a 3/8" and use AN-6 bolts? If so, what are you using for prop bolt torque? The value stated in the Jabiru manual will no longer be correct.

I think you may have the wrong bushings. Mine are for AN-6. You might wish to call Jabiru USA and see if they sent you the wrong ones or can point you to a supplier of the AN-6 ones.
As for prop torque, I used the Prince settings on the label of the prop.

1/4" ID bushings is what Jabiru supply. I just drilled them out to 3/8". Cant remember the torque I use off hand I got it off the sensenich site.

I did get my Jabiru second hand and it had the 3/8 bushings. So I don't know if the original owner drilled them or he got new ones.

Yep.. here it is from page 35 of the jabiru installation manual, calling out an AN4 bolt

I guess i will open up my bushings to accommodate the AN6

Drill 'em out. It's surprisingly easy. The metal seems soft.

Ok..

got the job done on the lathe at work. A drill press probably would have worked too, but it was quite easy this way.

I upsized the bushings using the same 3/8", piloted double margin drill bit that i used for drilling my forward spar blocks (the second time  ):

The steel was soft, cut very easily.
