Jabiru 3300 Gen 4 owners feedback request

Postby 214NTX » Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:14 pm

Hello Jabiru 3300 Gen 4 owners. I would like know what your experience with this engine has been like.
Total time on the engine, any issues with it, likes and dislikes, carb you are using, did you have a Jabiru before this?
I am contemplating starting a B model or finding an A model that is close to the engine install point.

Thanks,

I have a Legacy Sonex that started life with a normally aspirated AeroVee. Not enough power on a hot day 2 up. When the turbo was released I converted to the turbo. At first it was the perfect amount of power for that airframe. But I was one of the early adopters and started having problems with the loss of power and finally complete seizure of the turbo. I had decided to go with the Jabiru 3300 before the cooling system was added by Sonex which seems to have fixed the issue.
The Jab 3300 was installed summer of 2018. First flight I was surprised at the amount of power that thing puts out. I have only been able to put 35 hours on and am right now doing the annual. I have the Aeroinjector for carburation and like it, once you know how to tune them they work great. The biggest problem with the install was the baffles. The kit from Sonex was cut for the earlier models and the size and spacing of the Gen4 cylinder bases is different and required re-working. This is my first Jabiru product but if I were to build again I would start with a Jabiru again.
