Over Voltage Protection Device

Postby JFYrineo » Mon Apr 08, 2024 6:35 pm

I am trying to find out what others are using for an OVPD out there. I have a new Jab3300 Gen4 install on my SonexB. B&C doesn’t seem to have a current working solution. When I contacted Nick at Arion Aircraft to ask what Jab uses on their airplanes and his Arion Lightings with Jabs he said just the voltage regulator with a fuse on the main bus.

What protection are you after, one that blows the fuse thats in line, or something else. I ask because, years and years ago, in my Triumph and BSA cycle days, they had a very large zener diode across the buss, and mounted on a big heatsink that would keep the buss voltage at a level that woild not hurt whatever was connected to the buss. the same principle might be applied here?

The OVPD senses an over voltage situation out of the PM alternator and sends the current to ground by de-energizing the coil in the alternator relay
