The temp I quoted was for the coolant temps. My CHT under the exhaust plug Is from 275-350 F. According to Rotec, the coolant temp. Is more accurate as all six cylinders are being fed the same coolant at the same time. I'm using 100ll with decalin runup. No detonation. Runs smooth as silk.

Thanks Steve ... I appreciate the feedback. I'm also using the Decalin with the 100LL but recently started mixing in a bit of Ethanol Free 93 octane. Mine runs very smooth, great power, no oil usage, and oil is still pretty clean at the 25-30 hour change. I was just a bit concerned that perhaps my CHTs were too cold. When I flew with my hangar friend in his Rockwell Commander with the Lycoming engine he started it and took-off shortly thereafter. I asked him about waiting for temps and he told he his POH states that "as soon as the engine will take full throttle without stumbling it is ready for take-off." From all I can ascertain about the operating perimeters for his Lycoming engine ... that is correct.

During the summer I can get the CHTs into the mid to upper 200's after leaning but when I fly with the OATs in the 40's the best I can get is about 220ºF. So far so good!

Steve if i where you remove them and get them checked valve guides by a head specialist dont trust this guy.When i asked him about oil leaks no we have had no problem but if you look on his web the first jab they done leaked oil. i just done a overhaul run the engine had to remove heads oil leaks i am thinking heads are porous i have put over size orings that just slows the oil leak. I am on the verge of putting the aircooled heads back on just about had enough. all I can say is good luck you will need it.

Dale the only good thing about LCH is the temp mine runs around 180 and lower i put a flap on radiator to raise the temp in cold weather.200 is to hot i think.

Rotec LCH just one more thing I have found the head bolt that goes through the rocker chamber it was tight to undo right to the end. As with the other bolts just push them in till the thread and screw in what the problem is the alloy around that bolt hole is soft when the bolt is tightened the hole collapses so I will have to drill it out. These LC heads i have are a disaster thank goodness i still have my old heads. allycol

I stopped by the Rotec booth at Airventure and had a look. What he had displayed was not impressive. I pointed out that the ports were not centered in the bolt pattern. He said "the core slipped". I cannot say that all of the heads may have had "slipped cores", but the fact that he put the less than ideal example of his workmanship out for display at Airventure was telling. If this is his showpiece, what must he be selling? I have seen quite a few example of sand casting, and these examples were far from the finest workmanship.

Steve as like you It looked like the workmanship was good but how do detect loose valve guides who would check and soft alloy around the lower head bolt and oil leakage. Number 1 head valve guide was badly worn why I could not find out.Im not on this site to scare munger I am just passing on my experience with the botched work this person done to my heads. There is an old saying past behavior is the indication of future behavior.
I am sure you have doubts in your mind after reading this what you do is up to you I would not be conferdent flying your aircraft and at only 30 hrs. allycol

I can recommend the idea water cooled heads for jabs.They work very well just dont buy of rotec with a bit of luck someone
else will copy and make aircraft standards professional heads. Cheers Allycol

Who are you? It's all well and good to have an opinion about a company or product, but you came on this forum and just started trashing Rotec LCH's……. without telling anyone who you were, what your relationship is with Rotec and no supporting evidence to make your case.

Who are you, what acft do you own, what engine, how did you get 'involved' with Rotec…… have you tried resolving any problems with Rotec, what was their followup? …

This internet is a powerful tool and in the wrong hands can make or break a reputation without any proof or substantiation .

Sorry for the rant, but we 'listen' to this negative stuff about Rotec, Sonex, Aerovee, Corvair, etc., etc. from people we don't even know. And we're to take it as FACT……?
