New 'Bolt-On' LSA Engine Announced From Italy's ICP

Postby Mike53 » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:31 pm

When I read about stuff like this I think maybe it's time to think about spending a lot less on the panel and save up to buy this .Dang would this make the Onex move.At 178lbs all up weight including fluids, makes it doable I think.....http://www.eaa.org/news/2012/2012-11-21 ... engine.asp
There is also an article in the current Experimenter http://experimenter.epubxp.com/i/108002/26 it seems they will market it themselves.

I think that's the engine based on the BMW motorcycle engine. Really sounds promising. I always wondered why motorcycle engines haven't been more popular for aircraft conversions.

fastj22,
Nope, it's definitely not a BMW. Theirs are either inline (the K-series) or horizontally opposed (the R-series). The R-series are very popular motors for trikes and many have been fitted to LSA-type conventional planes. too (mostly in Europe). I'm interested in those, (115HP, les than 180 lbs, proven in flight, not to pricey) and started a separate thread here a few minutes ago looking for any info related to their existence in the Sonex world.

Possibly derived from a Ducati or Motor Guzzi?
